Thank you!
Well, I compose the shot, figure where I want to be… set the timer and RUN. All of my self portraits are with cameras with built-in timers. I give myself two or three shots to get it right…. and if it isn’t to my liking, it wasn’t meant to be. I have been modeling for other photographers for years and I like to think I have gotten really good at being aware of the camera and posing myself.
I also like to go out with other people on shoots and sometimes I have others help me by standing where I want to be and letting me focus the shot before I run to get into place. Sometimes I shoot alone at a location and I just have to make my best guess on the focus (like a self-face-portrait in a wooded area, etc).
Hi there! I usually use my Pentacon Six which is medium format. A lot of my older images from 2+ years ago were taken with a KOWA 6, but sadly that camera bit the dust. I also use my Holga, and a few other 120 toy cameras…. and my polaroid camera.
Now, as far as the places…. I am a crazy explorer. I guess I wanted to be an archeologist finding shipwrecks when I was really little and in a way, it is like I still get to explore wrecks and crazy places. I am really attracted to what most consider “scary” or “spooky” and I don’t really think twice about exploring abandoned buildings. I will hear stories or hop in the car with someone who knows of an awesome place… usually other photographers. I have been exploring places and abandoned buildings since I was a teen… long before the camera came along. I just have the bug to explore. Sometimes the location will work out for a shoot and sometimes I just end up exploring.
